Welcome to the Artificial Intelligence Incident Database (“AIID”) website (“Site”), which is operated by the Responsible AI Collaborative (collectively, “RAIC,” “we”, “us” and/or “our”). We are building a community of contributors and interested parties in order to answer Santayana's aphorism 'those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it'... with data.

This Site provides, among other things, information about our people and organization, as well as information and tools for using the Artificial Intelligence Incident Database (collectively, the “Service”).

Below we explain the type of information that is collected and how the information is used and shared by RAIC, along with the choices that you have with respect to that information.

Before using the Service, please review this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to this Privacy Policy, please do not access the Site or otherwise use the Service.

Information We Collect

We collect information that alone or in combination with other information in our possession could be used to identify you (“Personal Information”) as follows:

Personal Information You Provide: If you communicate with us, we may collect your name, contact information, and the contents of any messages you send (“Communication Information”). We also collect the names of the individuals who choose to provide them with their Incident submissions and share them publicly on the Site leaderboard.

Personal Information We Receive Automatically From Your Use of the Service: When you visit, use, and interact with the Service, we may receive certain information about your visit, use, or interactions (“Technical Information”). For example, we may monitor the number of people that visit the Service, peak hours of visits, which page(s) are visited, the domains our visitors come from (e.g., google.com, yahoo.com, etc.), and which browsers people use to access the Service (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Internet Explorer, etc.), broad geographical information, and navigation pattern. In particular, Technical Information includes the following, which is created and automatically logged in our systems:

• Log data: Information that your browser automatically sends whenever you visit the Site (“log data”). Log data includes your Internet Protocol address, browser type and settings, the date and time of your request, and how you interacted with the Site.
• Cookies: Please see the “Cookies” section below to learn more about how we use cookies.
• Device information: Includes name of the device, operating system, and browser you are using. Information collected may depend on the type of device you use and its settings.
• Usage Information: We collect information about how you use our Service, such as the types of content that you view or engage with, the features you use, the actions you take, and the time, frequency, and duration of your activities.

Cookies: We use cookies to operate and administer our Site, gather usage data on our Site, and improve your experience on it. A “cookie” is a piece of information sent to your browser by a website you visit. Cookies can be stored on your computer for different periods of time. Some cookies expire after a certain amount of time, or upon logging out (session cookies), others survive after your browser is closed until a defined expiration date set in the cookie (as determined by the third party placing it), and help recognize your computer when you open your browser and browse the Internet again (persistent cookies).

How and Why We Use Information

We may use Personal Information for the following purposes:

• To maintain and improve the content and functionality of the Service;

Aggregated Information. We may aggregate Personal Information and use the aggregated information to analyze the effectiveness of our Service, to improve and add features to our Service, to conduct research (which may remain internal or may be shared with third parties, published or made generally available) and for other similar purposes. In addition, from time to time, we may analyze the general behavior and characteristics of users of our Services and share aggregated information like general user statistics with third parties, publish such aggregated information or make such aggregated information generally available. We may collect aggregated information through the Service, through cookies, and through other means described in this Privacy Policy.

Sharing Information

We share information about you in limited circumstances, and with appropriate safeguards on your privacy. These are spelled out below:

• Vendors and Service Providers: To assist us in meeting business operations needs and to perform certain services and functions, we may share Personal Information with vendors and service providers, including providers of hosting services, cloud services, and other information technology services providers, email communication software and email newsletter services,and web analytics services. Pursuant to our instructions, these parties will access, process, or store Personal Information in the course of performing their duties to us.
• Business Transfers: If we are involved in strategic transactions, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, or transition of service to another provider (collectively a “Transaction”), your Personal Information and other information may be shared in the diligence process with counterparties and others assisting with the Transaction and transferred to a successor or affiliate as part of that Transaction along with other assets.
• Legal Requirements: If required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to (i) comply with a legal obligation, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements, (ii) protect and defend our rights or property, (iii) prevent fraud, (iv) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of the Services, or the public, or (v) protect against legal liability.
• Other Users: Certain actions you take, such as the submissions of incident reports that you post under your name versus anonymously, may be visible to other users of the Service.
• Aggregated or de-identified information: We may share information that has been aggregated or de-identified, so that it can no longer reasonably be used to identify you. For instance, we may publish aggregate statistics about the use of our Services.

Choices

You have choices available when it comes to information about you:

• Limit the information that you provide: For instance, you may choose to submit incidents to the database under "Anonymous" instead of your name.
• Set your browser to reject cookies: At this time, RAIC does not respond to “do not track” signals across all of our Services. However, you can choose to set your browser to remove or reject browser cookies before using the Site, with the drawback that certain features may not function properly without the aid of cookies.

Your Rights

If you are located in certain parts of the world, including California and countries that fall under the scope of the European General Data Protection Regulation (aka the “GDPR”), you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, like the right to request access to or deletion of your data.

European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)

If you are located in a country that falls under the scope of the GDPR, data protection laws give you certain rights with respect to your personal data, subject to any exemptions provided by the law, including the rights to:

• Request access to your personal data;
• Request correction or deletion of your personal data;
• Object to our use and processing of your personal data;
• Request that we limit our use and processing of your personal data; and
• Request portability of your personal data.

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

The California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) requires us to provide California residents with some additional information about the categories of personal information we collect and share, where we get that personal information, and how and why we use it. The CCPA also requires us to provide a list of the “categories” of personal information we collect, as that term is defined in the law, so, here it is:

• Identifiers (like your name, contact information, and device and online identifiers);
• Communication Information that you provide directly (like contact information)
• Internet or other electronic network activity information (such as your usage of our Services);
• Geolocation data (such as your location based on your IP address); and
• Employment-related information (information you provide in a job application).

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the CCPA, subject to any exemptions provided by the law, including the right to:

• The right to know what Personal Information we have collected and how we have used and disclosed that Personal Information;
• The right to request deletion of your Personal Information; and
• The right to be free from discrimination relating to the exercise of any of your privacy rights.

We do not and will not sell your Personal Information.

Authorized Agents: you may submit a request to know or a request to delete your Personal Information through an authorized agent. If you do so, the agent must present signed written permission to act on your behalf and you may also be required to independently verify your identity and submit proof of your residency with us.

Links to Other Websites

The Service may contain links to other websites not operated or controlled by the RAIC, including social media services (“Third Party Sites”). The information that you share with Third Party Sites will be governed by the specific privacy policies and terms of service of the Third Party Sites and not by this Privacy Policy. By providing these links we do not imply that we endorse or have reviewed these sites. Please contact the Third Party Sites directly for information on their privacy practices and policies.

Children

Our Service is not directed to children who are under the age of 13. The RAIC does not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13. If you have reason to believe that a child under the age of 13 has provided Personal Information to the RAIC through the Service please contact us and we will endeavor to delete that information from our databases.

Security

You use the Service at your own risk. We implement commercially reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational measures to protect Personal Information both online and offline from loss, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no Internet or e-mail transmission is ever fully secure or error free. In particular, e-mail sent to or from us may not be secure. Therefore, you should take special care in deciding what information you send to us via the Service or e-mail. Please keep this in mind when disclosing any Personal Information to RAIC via the Internet. In addition, we are not responsible for circumvention of any privacy settings or security measures contained on the Service.

Privacy Policy Changes

The Service and/or our activities and businesses may change from time to time. Please review this policy periodically. As a result we may change this Privacy Policy at any time. When we do we will post an updated version on this page, unless another type of notice is required by the applicable law. By continuing to use our Service or providing us with Personal Information after we have posted an updated Privacy Policy, or notified you by other means if applicable, you consent to the revised Privacy Policy and practices described in it.
